Gardner Lab is awarded an NIGMS MIRA grant
The Gardner Lab was awarded an R35 award from NIGMS. This 5 year award will fund our work on how mammalian cells control the function and abundance of their peroxisomes.
Peroxisomes are ubiquitous, membrane-bound organelles that cells use to compartmentalize specialized metabolic reactions. Loss of peroxisome function causes Peroxisome Biogenesis Disorders, characterized by hearing and vision loss, neurodegeneration, and liver, kidney, and bone disease. Our research seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the formation of maintenance of peroxisomes and the consequence to the cell when these mechanisms go awry.
